2014 brings opportunities for wound care as a specialty

19th February 2014

Queen D, Harding K (2014) Is 2014 the year of the wound? Int J Wound Care 11(1): 1

Douglas Queen and Keith Harding urge wound care specialists to take advantage of recent governments' interest in wound care, even if it is a result of ‘budget desperation’, and capitalise on this focus to push change forward.

Changes are already being seen in national associations changing their names, companies consolidating and new companies emerging. Centres of excellence are also appearing (namely Australian CRC, Welsh Wound Innovation Initiative and Bradford Wound Prevention and Treatment HTC).

The editors see the potential for 2014 to be the ‘Year of the Wound’ and, while recognising the constant dedication of wound care specialists to their patients, encourage them to seize the opportunities that are currently presenting themselves to further the speciality.
